The national park village Mallnitz lies in 1200m height, embedded between the High Tauern. The municipality covers a surface of approximately 110 km². To the municipality Mallnitz belong the localities Mallnitz, Stappitz, Rabisch and Dösen.

Journey with the railway - Hotel Kärntnerhof*** - Mallnitz
Mallnitz are the high-altitude railway station High Tauern railway line. All Intercity-trains stop in Mallnitz. In Böckstein the cars were taken huckepack by the train (Tauernschleuse) through the 8.6 km long Tauerntunnel.
